Like most gardeners I  love the whole process of what gardening entails, from planting seeds to propagating to designing  in other words, the entire spectrum.

I’ve been gardening for many years, first in Dublin (where I come from), and now in Co.Waterford where I now  live.  Both gardens have been challenging in their own right,  the Dublin garden for its small size (a postage stamp) to the garden I have now in Co. Waterford, which covers several acres.

This garden has been a steep learning curve.  Initially I was overawed by its size, the volume of work required, and of course its location.  I live just outside the beautiful fishing village of Dunmore East in Co. Waterford and when I moved here in 1998,  there was very little protection from the elements. But for a few pine trees, it was a blank canvas.  So my first priority was establishing a shelterbelt from the salt-laden sea winds in order to protect the young growth.  After almost twenty years I’ve succeeded in creating what I would describe as a microclimate, which allows me to grow almost anything.  Despite the ongoing battle with brambles and weeds, I feel I have created a piece of heaven from which I derive an abundance of inspiration.  No day is the same; the colours, form and interesting topography have all helped me in my creative work.

From a very young age I have always been attracted to colour, and by growing beautiful vibrant flowers,  I’m able to satisfy that inner need.   Over the last few years I’ve found myself putting more emphasis on growing seasonal cut-flowers. While at this juncture I’m at an early stage in developing my small flower farm here in lovely Dunmore East, Co Waterford, I’m delighted to say that the response and feedback has been very encouraging.

Creating seasonal door swags, hanging wreaths and using edible flowers in my hand tied bouquets are part of my trademark. There is so much scope here, and they can be used for weddings, christenings or just to welcome guests to dinner. My style is very natural and free-flowing, using, whenever possible, all of the materials that grow in  my garden.

I’m very passionate about what I do; for me it is a sheer joy to work amongst the flowers I grow while another lovely element to this creative work is meeting people and seeing their appreciation for the way that I arrange my bouquets.

I look forward to developing my flower farm “ Bizzy Lizzies Flowers” over the coming years.
