Wedding and event flowers - Cork

In 1995,  while house hunting with my husband near Kinsale in Co Cork, we happened upon a twenty-acre  plot of land for sale on the banks of the Bandon river. It was a rather unloved place, overgrazed in some parts and covered in brambles in others but with acres of the most beautiful wetlands and reed beds teeming with wildlife. We couldn’t walk away from it and the very  next day we bought it!

Twenty-two years  later,   we’ve  planted several hundred  trees, enhanced the wetlands by creating a lake, planted an orchard and developed wildflower meadows and a vegetable garden. The otters came along with  kingfishers, butterflies, moths and bats. We built a house and raised our children here. In 2017,  having taken time off from a long career,   I decided it was time for a new venture and  Shippool Cottage Flower Farm was born.

I grow an acre-and-a-half  of seasonal cut-flowers  from March to October. This is a perfect place to grow them  as it is south-facing , sheltered and moist and my plants  just love it. I strongly believe that beautiful, affordable,  locally-grown  and naturally grown cut-flowers  should be readily available all over Ireland and am delighted  that they are  now available in the Bandon /Kinsale area.

I’ve had an exciting start to my business  , supplying sweet peas  for weddings, selling bouquets at local artisan and health food shops, providing funeral wreaths and flowers for local guest houses and cafes and providing flowers for events at the ‘Taste of West Cork’  food festival. I‘ve   also got to fulfil a dream and work full time outside- sometimes in wind and rain, but here in West Cork in mostly sunshine!
