Tara Hill Flowers
Having spent my professional career working with blue chip organisations nationally and internationally, I searched for something that would allow me to work and stay local near to my home in north Co Wexford. We are located on the south facing slopes of Tara Hill near Gorey, 1km from the Irish Sea at Ballymoney, which maximises our sunshine exposure. At Tara Hill Flowers, we currently have around half an acre planted with a range of different annual and perennial flowers. Each year we try some new varieties to see what works best in our soil and also what goes down well with our customers through the season. We also grow a wide range of fruit and vegetables for our own use.
Our dry loam soil is excellent for growing high quality flowers and foliage. Our location allows us to have an extended growing season, with frost very rare due to the proximity to the coast. Rainfall is low relative to other parts of the country. Wind can be a challenge at times, but we have planted shelter belts that will protect us from extremes once they develop. My husband and I are both from farming backgrounds and studied Agricultural Science at University College Dublin, so we have a good appreciation of what is required to cultivate healthy flowers in harmony with our beautiful landscape. We follow organic principles, placing great emphasis for example on feeding the soil from our compost heap.
In terms of floral arrangements, I have a natural loose elegant style that shows the array of flowers that we grow. All arrangements have an abundance of flowers that create beautiful visual displays. I create a bespoke design for each client, and they are hand crafted and made to order. We also love to welcome customers to see how the flowers are grown at Tara Hill and to appreciate the beautiful surroundings and view that we are fortunate to work in every day.
My aim is to grow a wide variety of flowers and create some amazing experiences for my clients.
