Tara’s Meadow Flowers is an artisan flower farm in Portlaoise, run by me, Tara Challoner, using sustainable farming principles.

I grow and supply beautiful, scented, seasonal flowers between the months of April to October. My motivations behind the business are two-fold, firstly to help cultivate happiness and spread joy through the beauty and magic of naturally grown flowers, and secondly to run an ethical, nature-friendly business, to help increase the wildlife value of the farm.

My background is in ecology and wildlife conservation, so my love of flowers stems from studying native Irish wildflowers, understanding their niches and habitats whilst appreciating how vulnerable they are in today’s modern landscape. My flowers are grown without the use of chemicals or peat, or single use plastics. Floral foam (a source of microplastics) is never used.

Nutrients from organic livestock enterprises on the farm are recycled on the flower farm to keep the soil healthy and to help reduce our carbon footprint. During 2024, I supply seasonal bouquets directly to my customers through Portlaoise Farmer’s market. Delivery is available locally also. In addition, I supply DIY buckets of flowers, and flower arrangements as farewell flowers. I also like to collaborate with fellow flower farmers where complementary colours or varieties are required, so that all offerings provided can be entirely naturally grown and Irish.
